Mindset Matters
I asked around a bit this week with athletes and colleagues who they looked up to when it came to people with strong mindsets. We all wish we had stronger minds. We all wish we could easily jump out of bed to train. We all wish we could be easily disciplined around our nutrition.
I got a lot of answers. Some admired athletes that have experienced hardships and came out the other side. Athletes like Kat Matthews. Some spoke about athletes with a proven track record of better than average work ethic like Micheal Jordan. Some spoke about athletes that were able to hold themselves to high standards around an elite performance culture like Richie McCaw and the All Blacks environment.
It felt to me that a strong mindset has many aspects. Focus, reslience, discipline, culture, work ethic, to name a few.
There are countless examples of people, just regular folk, that did something extraordinary through setting their mind to new levels. There are also some great examples amongst us of that … and perhaps endurance sport is a great vessel for personal development. Perhaps we are stronger mentally than we think…
I am not going to lie to you and say there’s a magic wand. All I will say is just keep on the path and keep extending yourself. Look for your edge. Once you find it it will reward you for the rest of your life.
