Cairns + More

Cairns :

Kicking things off this week with the last race of the season, Cairns. And what an awesome race it was. We had a strong team to fly the flag. Vibes were high and everyone was ready to roll.

We had one starter in the Ironman, Randall McAlister and he raced super well. The only issue being some gut problems on the run. Congrats on another Ironman Randy. A well deserved 12:13 finish time.

In the 70.3 we had Keaton Tull leading the way. Keaton has been balancing a marathon prep with a 70.3 prep and I’m really happy to say we got it right. KT knocked out a great 4:38 with a 1:30 run giving him good indicators for the Goldy.

Darren Alchin showed why he is the master at his game with a super crisp race from gun to tape for 4:52.

James Bonamy had a bike crash 2 weeks ago and somehow managed to get to the start line. Lucky he did as he raced super tough with his knee giving him a bit of grief. 5:13 for Bonners.

Vanessa Herbert has been training so well lately and was ready to go. It wasn’t long before she got into a battle up front and settled nicely into 2nd. First ended up hanging on but not without Vanessa chasing her hard all run. Final time was 5:38 and she held on for an awesome 2nd place.

The dynamic duo of Paul Humphreys and Dan Inglese raced as a team and did well, finishing in 5:39. I love the concept of teams racing. It creates a great dynamic and allows you to race when you might not have been able to do so solo.

Steve Mackay did Steve Mackay things and kept us guessing all the way to the start line but took the 70.3 option and finished well in 7:02.

In other races….

Race Report Monday can report that Matty Underwood snuck a run race in last weekend up in Newcastle. He raced in the 11km version of the Coastal Ascent. A super hilly run and he came in in 1:22 and 6th in his age.

At the SOUPA Crits Harry Wiles pulled off a nice 3rd in A Grade and Chris Visvis managed 2nd in C.

Amanda Behrendt continues to progress well in Kayak racing. She raced in the Paddle NSW Marathon Series down on the Wonny on Saturday and was first female (5th overall) in the 10k in 1:03:57.
