Kiama x Walchsee

Two races this weekend to report on. We had Matty Underwood back racing at the Kiama Coastal run and Harry Wiles in race 1 of his Euro campaign at Challenge Kaiser-Winkel Walchsee.

Matty was keen to get back to racing after being sick so he chose the 12k event.. With a couple of nice solid weeks under the belt I knew he’d go well. He really nailed it too and came 2nd in his age in 1:02. It’s a cracking trail run over the coast from Gerringong to Kiama so not easy either!

Harry settled in well over in Austria and was ready to race at one of the bigger Euro middle distance races on the calendar. The day was cold and wet and the fields big. Harry put together a really strong race of 3:59 and now heads to the Trumer Triathlon, another gnarly Euro mid distance hilly race.

Cairns lead in YouTube

I made a short YouTube of some of the sessions in the weeks leading into Cairns. I hope you like it.

Race Modelling

Race modelling is one of the big movers these days in preparing for a race. Well it always was really, but if you’ve been in the sport a few years this is an area to be really good at. It is using your training to be very specific as to where you are at compared to your goals. It helps you practice using race equipment, in race kit, under race nutrition all at the target paces.

Two things to look out for are ….. a note in Training Peaks from me if you have an A race coming up getting your goals as a start point. Also, look for specific intervals in your weekend sessions. Doing specific work at race pace will take management and at times make you anti-social if your mates are doing general endurance work but if you want to do it right, then these are the areas to work on.
