Racing Update
NZ Coast to Coast
As the name implies this is a 244km traverse across the South Island from Greymouth in the west to Christchurch in the east.
You will be challenged. You will be pushed. You will be in awe of your support crew. You will have lots of different weather conditions in one day. You will be very satisfied with yourself if you complete this race. It’s a toughie!
It’s a 2km run, a 55km bike, a 32km run, a 15km bike, a 1km run, a 70km kayak and a 70km ride to finish you off. The big challenge is always having a good run so it sets you up for good rest of the day. The “run” is along a river bed with plenty of river crossings and then up and over Goat Pass.
Ben Bourke came in off a DNF last year from getting Gastro the day before the race but was ready to go. Jarrod Denny didn’t get a prized entry last year but got one this year. He was also ready to go. The lads put a lot of work in and were fit.
But fit only gets you so far in this race.
The race went smoothly really. The usual challenges arose of course, including a rainy southerly change for the back half of the kayak. But the boys and their crews responded. Nutrition on point, skills on point, resilience on point. They didnt falter and were duely rewarded with strong finishes. Jarrod in 15:22 and Ben in 16:42.
