Iconic
That was one helluva weekend ! Not one, but two iconic races !
We had our Kona Crew racing brilliantly on the Big Island and Ben Bourke taking on the Hawkesbury Classic
Right now I am in transit back home so will keep it fairly brief and will do a Kona Edition later in the week.
Before I give you the results but I wanted to say a huge thanks and well done to everyone in HPT. We are the very epitomy of a TEAM. With our coaches at home, our support of each other, our athletes that help build what we do here and our passion that gets brought out every day. …. we have something here that is truly remarkable.
Ironman World Championships - Kailua Kona, Hawaii
This is still the one that brings out the passion in people. It’s the race that got a lot of people started in the sport, watching it on TV. The heat, the wind, the course, the history, the athletes, the victories, and of course the explosions. It’s the race that has it all.
James Martin raced with 4 weeks of no run training and that took it’s toll on the run but Jimmy still managed an incredible race finishing in 9:51 and a very happy and proud athlete given the journey
Paul Linton had a great swim, great bike and a great run which of course added up to a great race. 10:20 and a finish time that is going to see him hard at work very soon to head back and break 10.
Darren Alchin had a great swim which was probably his only worry. He nailed that and then stayed super happy and relaxed through the day almost inviting every bit of heat and wind as part of the experience. 10:57 was a great testament to the work done on his part
Ed Quartly took this on as a new Dad and i cant believe how well he did. Well I can actually as i know the talent that he has. Ed disapppeared from the tracker until Hawi turnaround giving some heart flutters. 11:20 for Ed
James Knight reckons he blew up but mate if that’s the best blow up you have got try harder. You killed it and responded when it mattered under the fatigue and heat and weight of living out a dream the only way you know how. On the front foot
Congratulations to you all. Well done to your amazing supporters and I cant wait to continue hearing the war stories.
Hawkesbury Classic
Benny Bourke was pumped to get to the late start line of 4pm for this overnight 110km classic. The plan was set and he took it on knowing what he wanted. If he could get past Wisemans Ferry at 65km he would but he would have to fully ready as there is NO support from there til the finish. In the end Ben got cold and just didnt have the confidence to SAFELY go on. A fantastic paddle of 65km in 7 hours and a hunger for more.
