Racing
20 Beaches
Jarrod Denny raced the 20 Beaches Ocean Ski race on Saturday, a 20km paddle from Collaroy to Palm Beach. A tough event but Jarrod aimed up really well for it and enjoyed the experience as he gets into more of this type of racing. It took him a touch over 2 hours for the event.
Bowral Classic
Sunday was an interesting one ! The Bowral Classic bike race / Gran Fondo was cancelled last minute due to organisational issues but our guys, like most everyone, still rode the course anyway. Congrats to Nathan Dixon and Paul Humphreys for their rides !
A shoutout to the guys who swim with us for their efforts on the weekend also. Lando doing the Bowral ride and Matt Bonny racing in the Sprint World Champs in Spain. Great effort fella’s.
Sneak Peek at “The Dashboard”
After a lot of hard work over the last couple of months we now have our dashboard in a place where we can start getting data populating into it and start getting used to using it. This dashboard will be geared towards getting data to help guide us in our training. It will be based around a 90 day block and will contain info that is geared around the training dose / response model. Big thanks to Jarrod Crump for his expertise in helping make this to become a reality. One of the best triathlon programs in the world just got better !
From Jarrod ………
Overview:
Triathlon as a sport has been evolving for some time. In the past, training plans have been well thought out and constructed, but never before have we had the capability to do what we can today with data to deliver what we want to deliver to athletes…. high performance. By adding additional resources, we seek to take performances to another level.
Objective:
Putting in place a data model that allows for tailored athlete outcomes, takes the athlete on the journey and enables efficiency of programming that is hyper specific to the goal of the athlete is a win/win.
Why is it important?
· A data supported approach puts specific, time bound and measurable markers in place for athletes to understand the why behind the plan
· It can be used to ensure athlete management, load & injury risk and progression be easy and efficient to see
· It can help take the performance of the HPT athletes to new levels
How is data used today?
· Data is currently gathered through various platforms including Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, Training Peaks and is “messy” to pull together
· As a point in time, these are great tools to give a simplified position, but we need to go deeper and plan for mid to long term progression
What do we aspire to?
· Develop a data model that factors in the HPT coaching methodology to build efficiency and performance
· Enable athletes to visualise, buy-in and work at specific goals
· Be industry leading in the use of data
What are the considerations to factor in?
· Athlete appetite … Not all athletes want the same thing, nor are data (or outcome) led
· How we store & process the data (limiting risk of data access issues)
· How we visualise and what we use purely for coaching / programming, vs what is shared with athletes
Summary
We have a pretty unique opportunity to develop something that the industry doesn’t do that well. There are programs that exists that are great contributing tools to the process that we should continue to leverage, however to go to the next level, they aren’t enough or we will do the same as everyone else.
Kobe didn’t train as much as the next guy to be the best, he did more. Michael said it best, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
