Kiama
It’s been a while since we have seen a new triathlon on the circuit ! Kiama was promised last year but fell over at the last minute with approvals issues but this year they had it sorted and I am glad they did. What a great race !
A tide assisted swim in the river got things off to a fast start. Then we had the first experience of a dead zone where you walked from T1 to the mountline (likewise dismount to T2) and not have it count in your time. This was due to not being able to close the roads in that mount area. Turned out great ! Weird but great ! Then it was onto a run that was so hilly. Scenic yes - but very hilly.
All in all its great to get to a great local short course race where you could drive down on the day, race , and be home by lunchtime. Coach was stoked with our overall prep and execution too.
Results:
Matt Godkin - 1:56 - 1st in 30-34. Strong race but a bit of mech mishap meant it was done without a big chain ring. Adpated really well to go with with the win.
James Bonamy - 2:08 - 1st in 45-49. Outstanding race from the gun to the tape. Did everthing right and raced happy
Ryan Beattie - 2:09 - 4th (hard to take having a pro in your age group). A strong race where we learnt a lot and moves on with that to Canberra.
Paul Humphreys - 2:36 - Great to see Humps racing again after a broken wrist and torn muscle shenanigans. Humps just loves racing and this one made him hungry for Noosa.
Doug Parra - 2:42 - First race in HPT colours and killed it. Smiled all day. Paced well, great nutrition . All the good things !
