Backyard

The Backyard Ultra has a great vibe to it.

My first experience seeing one “in the flesh” was it seems to have something for everyone. Our lads, Dan Inglese and Josh Revell saw a great challenge and the format seemed welcoming to them. They went with an attitude of just get over there and have the best crack they could - the finish line was literally where they decided they wanted it to be.

As the way things happen in the Backyard, Dan was going great until he wasn’t. The ITB was taking all the load and just gave him enough grief to call it a day after 8 “yards”. Up to that point, the boys were largely able to run quite close together. Joshie had a bit more up his sleeve but and coincidentally, yard 8 was his second wind. After a run of 41-45min yards he pulled out a 38. From there he was able to settle into a rythm and pushed out another 3, finishing his day at Yard 11 with 4 min to spare but happy with his decision.

Final numbers were :

Dan Inglese - 8 Yards - 53.7km

Josh Revell - 11 Yards - 73.7km

At the time of writing this newsletter the male race is still going - 50 yards later. Two guys left battling it out to be the last one standing. The female race only finished not long ago also. This is an incredible event with different strategies and for the big players a real serious approach. I can see it really taking off.

One final word is a shoutout to all the amazing support the guys had. It was quite cool seeing the large number of our crew head over to put their weight behind the athletes. Bravo !! 🙌
