Max Adventure RNP

Adventure athletes doing adventure athlete things was the order of the day on Saturday. Ben Bourke and Jarrod Denny had this one slated as a “bit of fun” (a 4 hour race !) …. next minute we have Jeff Davis on the start line too as a substitute for a mate with a bad back.

How good !

What a day the guys had. Self labelled as Misfits (Jarrod and Ben) and Misfits 2.0 (Jeff and Steve) they took on the might of the Royal National Park trails and rivers. This event has MTB, running and kayaking as its 3 disciplines and the athletes get given a map at the start and have to self-navigate whilst collecting. checkpoints along the way.

Benny struggled with cramp early but made a big comeback. Then the sky’s opened up with torrential rain. Then just as all was going along sedately the boys came across each other on the final leg and the race was on.

Congrats to Jeff and Steve for grabbing a narrow victory over Jarrod and Ben (35sec in it) and both teams should get a massive wrap for picking up 4th and 5th overall in a big event!

Last Race of The Season

2 weeks to go now for what I am calling the last race of the 23/24 season. Cairns Ironman and 70.3.

We have a solid team of athletes heading up too with 6 in the IM and 6 in the 70.3. Everyone has prepared well.

Once we get back from that we will start really including off-season language and vibes. Training intensity doesn’t change a massive amount but we will put an emphasis on the core principles of Endurance, Speed and Strength. Hills, longer long ones, technique, short duration speed checking etc.

Of course as we know, such is the nature of our sport, Townsville is only 12 weeks away so it won’t be all coffee rides and hill reps, our Worlds competitors will be head down and bum up with specificity work also.

Reset and Reflect

Coaches love a good reset and reflect and I am no different. Every year I reflect not only on our results but also our areas of opportunity. Our goals will remain high and our levels of professionalism will keep pushing forward.

I look forward to putting my thoughts into a presentation this year and present them to you on a Zoom in late June sometime. Stay tuned for a date.

I have never been more excited as a coach to deliver a program that focuses on your results and your community to ever increasing standards of excellence!
