Taupo +

Well that was a huge weekend ! 70.3 Worlds didn’t disappoint and we had plenty of action back at home with the 2 athletes racing the Super Crit at Sutho as well as another at the Warringah Tri Club race and one at the CTC Clubbie

It is hard to believe but the sport continues to mature. Every race, every year we are seeing athletes arriving at races well prepared and racing well. The times are improving and the execution is right on point. That’s exciting !!

Every race I coach at I watch for “things I notice”, and make a list. The list was short from Taupo as the thing I noticed was there isn’t a lot that stands out. At Worlds level it all looks very good.

The 4 E’s are on show - Equipment, Execution, Energy, Effort

As we enter the last week of the year before Christmas we get to relax a little. Only a little mind you haha. As we prepare to race another race and train another block we have to make sure stop and smell the roses. Reflect on how well we have done and reflect on the growth and challnge we are going through.

70.3 World Championships - Taupo, New Zealand :

A hot weekend of racing with the women on Saturday and the men on Sunday. The course was great and Ironman organised it so well. HPT hd 5 athletes racing.

Jen Medina raced really well and held tough when she had to. Best ever swim, strong bike on a tough course and a well fought for run. Strong race across the whole day for a 5:57.

Darren Alchin knocked off his triple crown of Townsville, Kona and Taupo in style with a trademark well crafted race in 4:56. I don’t know how you do it Daz but then again I do - discipline and determination !

Jeff Davis also had a trademark well executed race and prep. This was his third World Champs for the year with Townsville Cross Tri and Long Course on top of Taupo 70.3 Worlds. 5:06 was JD’s time.

Pete Ruskin had some fun on the bike course with someone crashing into him but he took it in his stride and held tough on the run despite blowing up at 60k on the bike (his words). 6:01 finish time.

Derek Calder has had a year of challenges but has faced them every step of the way. This time it was a virus in race week! He set himself two targets as a result which he nailed admirably. Finish the race and have a great attitude. 7:26 finish time.

Local Races :

Shoutout to Harry Wiles and Ange Coleman who raced the SuperCrit up at Sutherland. Both athletes racing strongly.

Well done on a 2min PB for James Knight up at the Warringah Club race !

Congrats to Jarrod Crump who raced at the CTC Club race on Saturday. Apparently the high HR’s were actually him being sick ! Gutsy effort
