Tauranga Half

Harry Wiles kicked off his 2025 race season with a hitout at the Tauranga Half. It’s a super early race coming off his 2024 break but it’s a valuable early start to his year. Harry came 8th and will come home like any race with some wins to capitalise on and some things to work on.

I’m super proud of the way Harry raced. Being a pro it can feel like the world’s eyes are on you. This prep has been about developing his style of training and his style of racing and it’s not only inspiring to watch but it means much more when you do things with that kind of authenticity.

All systems go :

This week we got some great sessions in. As you know already it’s forefront in my mind that we take time in our training to be intentional in the way we train.

At sessions this looks like taking moments within sessions to discuss things. To get feedback from the coach to the athlete as well as the athlete to the coach. Not rushing through sessions.

Away from sessions it means taking the time to read your session description, understand the intent and intensity needed and execute as best we can. Of course it also means the feedback loop must also be present through the comment section.

Alpine Camp :

On Friday we head down to the Snowy region for the annual HPT Alpine Camp. 4 days at altitude pushing ourselves in a team environment to challenge our minds and our bodies. It will very much be a reflection of how we operate at HPT.

All team members will contribute to the energy and add their little piece to the operations of the camp. Our experienced campers have already kicked into gear with contributions via team challenges, camp rules, and cooking teams for dinner. We will all be in charge of making sure first timers feel welcomed, supported and encouraged. They will then pay that forward at next year’s camp. The camp will be tough but achievable to all if we manage ourselves and our energy well. Stay tuned for updates along the way.
