The Other “Port”
So much happening at the moment! Racing is still happening as evidenced with a great showing up at Port Stephens this weekend. The weather was atrocious and the water was rough so they reduced the swims and got on with the job. HPT athletes adapted and conquered.
Kelly Linton took on the Standard event, raced well over her first go at this distance and learnt a lot (‘all of it good). 3:01 and 2nd place. Kerry Morris and Josh Landsberry were hunting for points for Wollongong Aquabike Worlds selection and bagged plenty. Lando came 1st in 1:14 and Kez came 2nd in 1:22. Great work team.
Amanda Behrendt took her cross training seriously this weekend racing her big rowing regatta (nationals) and picked up lots of bling. A close 4th in the Interstate race and then a gold and a silver in the age races.
FulGaz is here
As advised last week we now have a FulGaz Clubroom. This means HPT athletes will be able to use FulGaz free of charge on all rides in our room. If you have a ride you want opened up just let me know. Full instructions are in the Getting Started blog
Cairns is coming
For all those racing Cairns, (IM and 70.3) by now you should be getting really close to knowing what your goal race paces and nutrition will be. You should be doing plenty of practice work in your weekend sessions to understand how those paces, powers and heart rates stack up. One of the first things Paul Linton said to me post race last week in Port was he felt the key to success was nailing his weekend endurance sessions and practicing race pace. Don’t leave it to race day to find out!
Transition Phase
Is there such a thing these days? For those already finished race season you are in what I call transition phase. Moving from race to base. Eyes go towards strength, speed and endurance. Building k’s and as such, durability and resilience. Your other job right now is getting around those still racing and helping them with their final preps.
