Week 1

It was great to get back into the routine again!

Alignment of racing schedules and a few new faces (welcome all!) adds up to great numbers at squad sessions and that adds up to improved performances at training.

Be smart ! make sure you know what we are wanting out of each session, stay focussed and have fun. Be the person you want to train next to.

Group training is awesome but be mindful it’s not the place for a lot of one on one time. I will mention to you if I want sonething changed and then we can pick up on it later in our usual communications to discuss further.

Race Results

Congrats to Derek Calder who raced the State Duathlon Championships and came 5th in his age.

Bunch Ride

Again, great numbers, and importantly great female numbers! That’s so good.

But like any bunch ride it’s time to revisit etiquette, rules, safety.

The big ones are :

  • Make sure you are the right level for the bunch. Ask me if in doubt. You should be able to average 26-28kph at least for min. 2 hours.

  • Strong riders have to compromise and ride easier. Weaker riders have to compromise and push a bit harder.

  • The lead two riders call out dangers from the front. The pack passes back those calls

  • The back two riders watch out for dangers from the back and guide us out into teh next lane when needed. Also it’s your job to watch out for any riders that drop.

  • In the bunch remain next to each other, talk, but don’t miss your job of relaying calls.

Programs and Training Peaks

Things evolve and I am working with a few athletes adapting how we use TP for good for them. Especially athletes that I have worked with for a while. If this resonates, message me! I am super motivated to mould things to the way that works for us.

Communication

Message or call me ! I love getting messages and calls. It’s suprising when I hear athletes say they don’t want to bother me when in fact you are bothering me if you don’t !! I really hate it getting to where I message to say “hey how you going ?”.

Socials

Yep - I have been leaning into tips on socials. Dragged there kicking and screaming I am loving it now. Make sure you watch there as it’s where my athlete’s eyes are and where I will give tips on issues that are commonn across a squad. I did one on recovery today as last week quite a few struggled with return to routine.
