A Victim Of Success

One of the things I see all too often is people that become victims of their own success.

They don’t actively chase promotions or wage rises. They don’t actively seek more work. They don’t even seek all the trappings.

They simply just work hard. Very hard.

They are motivated by being good at their job.

Their job is where they spend their most time and effort.

Their job is where they get the greatest positive feedback.

They don’t seek that feedback but it comes, and it’s creating something you find hard to walk away from.

The mere fact that you have a naturally high work ethic leads you to higher places. Businesses need you for their success.

So you are promoted and rewarded financially so you will stay. Sometimes into positions you had no intention of being in at the start.

This is nobody’s fault ! It’s not your boss’s fault nor is it yours. It is simply life and how things work.

Your success is paying off it seems.

Life looks great !

But now you find the expectations start creeping in. Those 60 hour weeks you popped in to get a project over the line? They become expected now.

The occassional travel ? Now it’s every week !

The deadlines become make or break.

The stress mounts….

You have no time or energy to train and you aren’t yourself at home.

So … how do you get your life back? Well …. that’s up to you.

Slowly wrestle the tiger back your way. Leave the office at the right time so your personal life isn’t neglected.

Don’t just work harder and then fall victim to the success.

Have those slightly uncomfortable conversations with management about what you want.

It’s better you do that than get sick or resentful.

The time is now and it’s in your hands.

Become a creator of your own success.
