HPT News

As the weather warms up the racing. just keeps coming. Another great weekend of events kept us busy. As did a strong week of training.

We had some great races this week which was great but its important to recognise when we face challenges too. We had a rolled ankle and a couple of instances of GI distress too. We go on the complete ride here in this team. We get around those that had great races as well as those that had a bit of adversity in their days.

Racing :

Harry Wiles went down to the Gong5000 on Saturday night. This is a 5k race that had some big hitters too. The skys cleared just in time for some great racing where Harry went 15:30 and came 10th. Shoutout to Matty Jean also who raced well for a 17:06.

Sunday morning came and we had athletes racing locally at the Royal National Park in the 10k and 21.1k Sri Chinmoy Runs and the Standard distance down at Challenge Canberra.

Chris Visvis hit up his last race of the year with Challenge Canberra and whilst he went really well, he did face gut issues. Chris wanted more than his 2:20. He smiled it off but and took it on the chin.

Closer to home the boys in the half mara had a good crack. Paul Humphreys ran a strong even prep event for UTMB in 2:06, Josh Revell had a cracker with his 1:33, Craig Dortkamp battled GI distress but pulled a 1:39 out and Ryan Beattie unfortunately rolled his ankle at the furthest point on the course and was forced to limp home. Shoutout to the team for heading back out to find him in case he needed help home. Proud Coach!

Whilst this was all happening Sammy Taylor smashed out a cracking 10k in 50:05 making her the fastest female and winning her event overall.

This Week’s Happenings :

I had a great catchup with INSCYD this week to get updated on their latest tests and courses. There’s been some incredible advances in this area lately and I am keen to get started using them more. I also sat and passed a course called “ Mastering Muscle Physiology: The Complete Curriculum for Muscle Function and Performance” to go deeper into the development and training of muscle fibre types. The better we get, the more accuare we need to be !

T100 was a mess. Plenty of opinions on this so here is mine. At that level we need lap counters. Pro athletes can’t be expected to count laps on their own at that level. Sure, the buck stays with them but PTO need competent officials to assist when there is this level of prizemoney on the line.

The Kona Qualification system got a much needed update this week. Bravo to Ironman for taking onboard the feedback when there was a problem. We need gender equity if we are to advance as a sport. It’s just “right”. Having separate gender Performance Pools will go a long way to helping this.

Programs :

Thanks for everyone’s updates of races and training availability this week. Helps a lot ! Needless to say accurate programming is a major target for me and all the information I can get the better

The next 4 weeks over Christmas is currently under construction. Plenty to consider too. For those without an immediate race it will be base building in nature. Especially for those that have had a big year (and who hasn’t).

For the Busso crew it will be recovery and for the AAA crew its base and strength time.

I usually have a very basic skeleton program over Christmas week and place less emphasis on it for both you and I. This helps with the Training Peaks Fatigue Syndrome that sometimes hits us. If in doubt - just leave the app alone and train easy with mates for a refresh week.

Dates to Remember :
