Alpine Ascent XTRI - A Big Day In The Mountains

3.8km swim in 15deg water. 180km ride with 3600m of climbing. 42.2km run at altitude with 900m of climbing.

4 athletes - Greg Attwells 3rd OA, 2nd AG, Jeff Davis 4th OA 1st AG, Nicky Western 2nd OA 1st AG, Jarrod Denny 9th OA 3rd AG.

46 starters. Only 21 finishers. 4 of them HPT athletes.

I’m not even going to put down times here because largely they are irrelevant. The athletes themselves didnt even know their times after the race.

What I will write down but is the effort given when faced with the task of taking on the toughest race in the country. The crew literally just kept smiling the whole way. Not once did i look at an athlete that was faced with something they werent wanting nor expecting. They simply thrived in the environment and it was a pleasure to watch.

Our team is a small one that packs a punch. No fuss. Hard working. Fit. Strong. Ready to take on any challenge. Every athlete got a finishers medal and a place in their age. Two athletes got a coveted rock trophy as top 3 overall. Greg 3rd and Nicky 2nd. Nicky even came away with a Norseman slot.

We couldn’t be prouder.

Alpine Ascent - 27km Run

Dave Hurst struggled a bit going into this one. But he was fit. Ironman fit. So he showed up, dressed up and never gave up !! Wanted sub 4 hours - and did it with a 3:53. Was so good to see you doing your thing out there today Dave !

Clubbies :

Nathan Dixon did it again - 1st at Crits but this time B grade. Harry Wiles raced the Short Track MTB at Sutho on Saturday. 2 x 20min races and did great. Awesome XTerra prep. Derek Calder raced the BBAC Aquathon again and smashed it as usual.
