HPT5

This one was a bit out of the box. I wanted a TT but I wanted to set up a pure race too. No handicaps. Just a pure chance to have that pressured feeling of performance. Times didnt matter to me as much as they did to you. I just wanted that awkward feeling of pressure to help develop the resilience to it. I also spread it out to those remote athletes that couldnt get a chance to race it with us on the Track. I was thrilled with the way it worked out and no doubt it will expeand from this seed we have planted.

I wont be publishing times. That wasn’t my intention and is a pure coaching call. That’s me leaning into process over outcome. Of course we did have 2 winners on the night. Zane Galea and Keily Mead who both ran really well …. as did everyone. Times were really strong across the board, both racing and setting times remotely.

Here’s some great photo’s of the night taken by Jess ….

Hyrox Sydney

Well that was pretty hectic. Turns out we had a lot of athletes head out to Homebush for a crack at this one.

It was my first time to watch one - here’s a few things i learnt….

  • Fitness Racing is a slick operation. Well put together by the organisers.

  • It’s extermely tough !! Comments varied from “that was fu*ked” to “hated it” to “Hyrox hell” were rampant. Now watch them sign up again. And why not !! It’s a great challenge

  • If you are thinking about doing one it seems to be equal parts endurance and strength. I would work on both with intent.

Congrats to everyone on their efforts. SINGLES : Julien Lamy 1:29 & Greg Attwells 1:29. DOUBLES : Julien Lamy and Jen Lamy Medina 1:12 …. Jess Clifford & mate Sam Eves 1:32. Emily Bilderbeck and mate Amy McPherson 1:32. Shoutout also to Crumpy and Russ’s sons Austin and Lachlan for smashing a 1:01 out.

Ironman Switzerland

Pete Ruskin raced Ironman Switzerland and was unable to finish due to a groin issue preventing him from going out on lap 2 of the bike. He will be back I know. He’s a tough hombre. As will Steve Mackay.

SOUPA Series

Ange Coleman got the flu that’s going around this week and didn’t race the last round of SOUPA but managed to hold on to 3rd place in the series on 24 points - outstanding work Ange!

Mini-Break for Me This Weekend

I will be heading down the coast this weekend for a little break from Friday to Sunday. I will be on limited contact as the goal is for me to take a break off the laptop and phone and just chillout. Make sure if you have any questions then get them to me by Thursday. Keep posting TP comments so I can read through them on Monday.

Race Efforts in Endurance Sessions

Even though it’s winter we now have athletes preparing for early season races and that brings race pace efforts into the endurance sessions. These have always been an important part of preparing for racing but they are now even more critical - the world is getting quicker and this is one of the reasons. Focused endurance work in all conditions and with race pace intervals.

Please make sure you a) get them done and b) prepare for them with getting an idea of where you will do them.

Also please hit the lap button when you start and finish each effort so we can easily look at the data and know if we are on track with race specific endurance.

Race Schedule

A few changes this week with the addition of Dolls Point, Goodness Gravel, Bowral Classic and Melbourne Marathon. Don’t forget to let me know if you have any additions for the schedule.
