Endure
What a week of endurance. 2 big events in the Kosci UTMB 50 and Ironman Western Australia.
2 events you have to commit to fully, 2 events you need the work to be done…. And we nailed it.
UTMB 50
Sammy Taylor has been busy racing since she has come back from Europe with Nepean, Noosa and Canberra triathlons to start getting a Worlds Short Course application in with NZ. But she always had UTMB as a big priority and it showed in the results with a brilliant 7:22 finish. I hear that she is happy to do 10 Ironmans before she does another 50k ultra . Yeah right !! You’ll be back :)
Ironman Western Australia
4 starters > 4 finishers. It’s what seems to have been lost lately.. the concept that Ironman is an accomplishment to finish. But ! We chase times. That’s what we do.
Jonah Newton is new to the sport and this was his first Ironman. With a 9:06 and 2nd in his age we can safely say Jonah has a bright future. Jonah was actually first out of T1 and led the race for a while until the big bikers stepped in. But with a strong run in his repertoire he was able to claw back a lot of places and finish 11th overall.
Dave Hurst has trained really well this year. It’s been the setup he has been chasing hard. Sub 12 was the goal and whilst he gave us all a bit of a heart flutter at then end, he pulled the cat out of the bag to go 11:54. Everyone is stoked for you Dave !
Ty Scott just wanted to race freely without the ITB issues that plagued him in his first 2 races. He needn’t have worried as he delivered a superb 3:53 run to finish in 11:15. All with a flat tyre at the start of the bike and some gearing issues that had to be fixed by the on course mechanics.
Randall McAlistar had mech issues in his last Ironman attempt which meant a DNF so was super hungry for that first medal. He was super strong all day which defines the way he trains so well. With a 12:28 first time finish we got to see Randall rewarded for his hard work.
