Home Game

It’s nice to have a 70.3 in your home town where you can ditch the travel logistics and have a relatively simple race week in your own bed and no packing so to speak. The added bonus was of course having a strong supporter crew on the sidelines ! (shoutout to those who could make it out for the race)

Sprint

It’s certainly a new thing to have Ironman doing a sprint but it really worked well i thought with timing etc as we could see the sprint athletes finish while the 70.3 athletes were still on the bike. Well done to Lucy Vaughan who did her first ever triathlon and killed it with a 3rd place and a time of 1:27:16 (including a 5k run PB). Chris Jovcevski was personally frustrated by his race a little with a few things going wrong but still managed a 2nd place in 1:11. For what it’s worth Jova - you nailed the resilience and pushed on so well. Jarrod Crump made a late decision to race and was also rewarded with a 2nd place with a time of 1:08. A little error in transition could possibly have cost him the win. Congrats also to Matt Bonny who swims with HPT and picked up a 1st place on his way to Worlds in Spain next month.

Transitions were key today !! So much so that we are going to do a transitions skills clinic lead by Crumpy in a few weeks so stay tuned for details.

70.3

9 starters for HPT kept the supporters busy at “Hot Corner”. Plenty of cheering and splits from the team ensued with the occassional dash of sledging :)

In HUGE news we also picked up 2 coveted slots for 70.3 Worlds in Taupo this December through Jeff Davis and Pete Ruskin.

Jen Medina was our only lady on course today and repped that flag so well finishing in 5:45 and a much coveted sub 3 hour bike. Jen gives plenty of love back to the support crew too which we love.

Nathan Dixon had his first foray into long course today and raced really well. He got a flat early and whilst it cost him 10min he showed a lot of resilience to get on with the job and get himself an impressive 4:33 time. Big things to come.

Jeff Davis had a stomper ! He was on from the word go, laying down a cracking race all day. 3min PB for JD and now enters the 4:3x zone with his impressive 4:37. Extra kicker was the slot for Taupo (the main goal of racing today for Jeff)

Jade Coleman raced well. It’s been a while since his last race and powered on strong all day for his 4:52

Scottie Allison was also strong all day. A really well rounded perfromance for 4:52

Ryan Beattie was frustrated a little on his run but is piecing this long course game together bit by bit. 4:56 with a big race not far away

Jordan McGrath was a special project today. A footy player and PT, he wanted to do a 70.3 so we set him up with a 12 week plan. It must have worked given his awesome 5:19 result.

Justin Hess froths on this stuff and used WS to get a feel for racing again after Port Mac IM a few months ago. Great work Justin for your 5:21

Nathan Leonard has made some changes to his life lately by starting to work with HPT and trained really well for this race. Especially given he got married only a few weeks ago mid-prep ! Nathan cracked out a strong 5:29

Pete Ruskin…. well speaking of change, Pete certainly has done that making a big career change recently leaving the Police Force. The new life sat well with him and he was able to grab a slot to Taupo with his 5:31.

Goodness Gravel

Chris Visvis combined his loves of videography and cycling with a 75km gravel ride out in the bush. A far cry from his last 3 weeks of holidays in Greece ! Was great to see Chris back home again and doing what he is passionate about.

Ironman Tri Club Update

Yesterday at Western Sydney we cleaned up and added 20,000+ points onto our tally in Division V. Lets keep it going everyone. We have put a LOT of teams behind us after only 2 races. If you aren’t affiliated to HPT yet just shoot me a message if you need help on how to do so.
