Notes : Turbulence
Turbulence :
This is one I picked up from an NRL press conference on the weekend. The coach spoke of having to manage some turbulence in the game and how he was happy how the players managed it. They picked a couple of injuries up which forced a reshuffle. This happens to us as endurance athletes also. The perfect week is our goal. Or the perfect prep. Then we strike turbulence. A niggle, a virus, work demands, life demands. The best teams and athletes can quickly rebalance and move forward, adjusting along the way. Eventually the turbulence subsides.
Self Belief :
Who you believe you are, is what you will be. You’ll do everything you can to prove yourself right too. Someone that battles difficulty seems to attract it. Someone that feels they aren’t a great athlete tends to bring that into their language. They have a bad result and see it as proof rather than a challenge. ….. “See I was right!” is a phrase I hear a lot. One of the most common themes I see in this sport is the “survivor”. The athlete that keeps battling and showing up for themselves. Maybe you could reframe to believing you are a survivor? Reframe your belief system and change your life.
Training Zones
Why do we have training zones? Zones 1,2,3,4 & 5 are simply a directive from. the coach to go at a certain intensity. Coaches use this system so an athlete can quickly and easily decide how hard or fast to go to create the right adpatations. Using a combination of feel, heart rate response, pace and power you can get close to where you need to be. There’s a number of challenges when it comes to using a single method so make sure you dial into all of them to come to the right speed.
Making it Sustainable
To create sustainable sucess in sport you have to have a level of intensity in what you are doing that will allow it to be done for an extended period of time. The moments of extra motivation that arrive can quickly derail you as you force yourself into having to back that level of effort up day after day. Endurance sport demands sustained effort over months and years. Sustained success will come about as a result of that sustained effort.
Keep it Simple
A program that is simple and done with excellence is better than a complicated one that is done poorly.
