Worlds Week
Wow ! Where do I start with a weekend like that. It wasn’t only Worlds on our plate but the Bowral Classic 150k, the Sydney Trail Half, and a club 5k kayak race.
Something I am stoked with is our love of short course racing. Its fun, exciting and plays a big part in a long course athlete’s development also. Let’s push on with that !
Race Results :
Congrats to Hannah Goerges, Lachlan Hess and Justin Hess on conquering the hills of the Southern Highlands in the Bowral Classic 150km Gran Fondo. Hannah finished in 5:49, Lachlan in 5:42 amd Justin in 6:30.
Well done to Eddie Bolus who did the Sydney Trail Half Marathon (done at dusk / night time) in 2:15:39.
Also to Amanda Behrendt who PB’ed her 5k Kayak with a 29:08 in a local club race
WORLDS :
It’s hard to believe it’s now done and dusted! This has been a huge project over quite a long period of time. From all the qualifiers, to the training and now the race its been a 12 month journey.
In HUGE news, we bagged two medals across the weekend !!!
Nicky Western bagged a Silver in the Sprint Distance and Josh Landsberry took Bronze in the Aquabike.
As for the event itself, we had a lot of moving parts in this prep. We had athletes racing Sprint, Aquabike, Standard and Mixed Team Relay. Then we had those preps mingled in with the Sydney Marathon, Western Sydney 70.3, UTMB and Busso IM preps to name just a few. Quite a challenge but one we took on with huge success.
Congrats to every single one of you for your efforts. It was worth it every single step of the way. You all raced with energy, effort and enthusiasm. You were organised and ready. And you got around each other and had fun at the same time.
Commiserations to Vanessa Herbert who was unable to compete due to illness. Next starting line will be a bit more special I am sure and thanks for supporting the team at the race when you weren’t feeling well !
Thanks to Coach Crumpy and Coach Jess for your parts in getting us here prepared and ready to race! We couldn’t have done it without you !
Thanks also to the friends, family and teammates alike who made the experience one where the athletes felt supported by being there when you were able to.
As an aside, whilst we have some really fun rivalries in triathlon, HPT has a few of it’s own developing with close racing lately between Paul Linton and Greg Attwells, Maddie Morton and Sammy Taylor, and Chris Jovcevski and Jarrod Crump. I love how we can have this aspect of fun and motivation in our squad ! …. Who can your friendly HPT racing rival be?
