Port Macquarie Ironman and 70.3

Straight off the back of Kona we had Port. Great crew. Well prepared. We knew it would be good. We also knew we would have challenges but that’s our sport. We arent defined by them but we accept them and grow from experience.

Unfortunately Alex Loughrey had an abcess show up at the wrong time which put him out of the race on Friday. He is back home and recovering post-surgery. We also had a couple of knee issues show up on the day for Paul Linton in the Ironman and James Knight in the 70.3. Both experienced IMWC competitors. But that says they know how to face the challenge and come back the safe and smart way.

Of course we also had success. The AG wins / podiums, the PB’s, the Kona qualifiers, the debut races, and the experienced athletes building their palmares.

Ironman

Brett Hallam 8:57, raced well all day and stayed strong when the legs fell apart in the last loop to hold on for an incredible win in the 35-39. Nathan Dixon 9:18 and 4th in AG, made redemption on IM after getting sick in Busso last year. He was so good all day. Stayed positive. Stuck to the plan and is off to Kona !! Huge congrats Dicko.

Patty Northam 10:26, on IM debut was incredible. He never looked like faltering and shows a natural affinity with long course racing. Jeff Davis 11:23, wanted a bit more but we know JD will respond and is still proud of his 11th IM finish. Chris Gaffney 11:45, was happy all day and raced like it putting together a great all round race. Dave Hurst 12:02 turned a nice corner in this race and raced with a strong happy positive attitude all day. Greg Attwells 12:15, had to battle fatigue in the run but smiled his way through it and is stoked to get his first “Ironman” Ironman. Dylan Synnott 12:43, got quite sick in the last month and had to battle that in the run. He did so but and that’s his 8th Ironman done now !

Aurelio Menzon 14:46 has a story to tell. He got sent the wrong way on the bike and found himself in town too early, so he had to think on his feet and adapt by doing 3 southern laps to get him to 180k and 1500m of climbing. Then he went on and did the marathon for a 14:46 finish. Unfortunately Ironman cant give him an official time of course, but he did the miles and got the reward.

70.3

James Bonamy 3:10, in the Aquabike kicked off things well getting 2nd in his AG and 2nd overall. Nicky Western went 5:13 as part of a team (she did swim bike). Jade Coleman 5:28, made a welcome return to racing and heads now to Noosa. Michelle Roche 5:52, smashed her sub 6 hour goal. Kerry Morris 6:14, made a course PB and run goal on the way to a great race. Angie Coleman 6:36 decided to race at the last minute after all and is glad she did. So are we !! Well done Ange :) .. Kelly Linton 7:02 raced so well considering a lot of travel demands for work. Kelly also got her run goal. Catia-Rose Romano 7:33, was on debut and nailed it managing the bike course with no big chain ring !

Nike After Dark - London

Congrats to Keiley Mead who raced the 10k Nike race in London on the weekend whilst working overseas. Keils ran a very strong 45:11

Club Racing

Just the one club race and that was Zane Galea racing the Sutho Crits as part of training and picking up the prime and 5th over the line.
