Spring

Winter is gone, the first bit of warmth is in the air and our very own Spring Classics (Bowral Classic, Sunny Coast and Western Sydney 70.3’s) are just around the corner. After one of the wettest winters on record the sun is a welcome sight and I am looking forward to a great summer of racing.

Coastal Classic

On Saturday we had two athletes racing this incredible race on our doorstep. I always find is strange we dont have more doing this one actually. Great distance of 30k. Awesome course. Perfect timing.

Quinton Westlake and Matty Underwood both had great races and dug deep. Its so good to see Quinton racing again after rupturing his plantar fascia last year. He finished in a very strong 3:08 time. Matty Underwood raced with his partner Emily and they pushed on well also for their 4:20 result. Matty now gets to sink his teeth into a Busso prep.

CTC 16km Bike Time Trial

Was good to see a few HPT athletes head down to the Tri Club time trial and use it as a prep for upcoming races.

Results : Ange Coleman 30:08, Harry Wiles 22:20, Jarrod Crump 25:10 and Paul Humphreys 26:40

TIP - Mindset Matters

With a big summer of racing coming up it’s timely to remind you that the best racing comes from a calm mind.

The moment you make it about pressure to get a result is the moment you are handing away the enjoyment of your sport to something you have no control over.

Enjoying the process of competitive sport is critical to success. Putting more pressure on internally won’t help that.

TIP - Race Plans - Keep It Simple

The best race plan is the simplest one and the two key elements have to be about pacing and nutrition. With all the opportunities you get to practice race pace you need to know how fast to pace yourself and how much nutrition and hydration to consume.

Remember - if the gut starts complaining, stop taking in more carbs, slow down a bit, sip water and wait for the gut to absorb what you’ve given it.
