News : Norseman
What a weekend that was. Only one athlete racing but it was a big race. Norseman. This one has long been on my personal list to hopefully one day coach an athlete through. Thomas Leuchten was definitely the athlete for that job.
The Race :
For those that don’t know it. Norseman is an Ironman distance race held in Eidfjord, Norway. It is part of the XTri series and is similar to what Kona is to Ironman. It has less than 300 competitors. You gain entry either via qualification via an X-Tri event or ballot.
The swim is 3.8km in 14deg water. You jump off the ferry to swim to the start line. The bike is 180km and has 3000metres of elevation. It starts with a 30km climb. Run is 42km. 25km gradual slight climb then 1700m of climbing in 17km.
Thomas nailed it. He achieved the goal of a black shirt mountain top finish reserved for the first 160 athletes to reach the 37km mark. We only spoke briefly post race but he reports the black shirt was well earned and yes “it was brutal”.
Last Week Catch-up
I missed a 5k Kayak race for Jarrod Denny last week. JD2 went 27:42 in the CSKC club race. Great job mate !
Swim Squads
Just a quick “well done” to everyone adapting so well to the temporary Caringbah switch. I’m impressed to be honest how well everyone has managed it. Management have been alerted to the pool entry issue too so hopfully no drama this week.
Testing
I will start the benchmark testing off next week with a Swim CSS test and grdually roll the others out also. I won’t be throwing them all at you at once.
Race Schedule
Just a note to remind you all to pop your races into the TP Calendar and message me when you add them in.
