News : Winter

Feels like it’s kind of biting now. Lot’s of layers on the morning bike sessions and always fighting the clothing choice for running. Long or short sleeves ? Or is this just me ?

Not a lot of racing this week but Matt Bonny did a cracking job on his City to Surf yesterday with a time of 66:34. Well done mate !

Athlete Health Questionnaire

We now have a HPT health and athlete contact details questionnaire in digital format via a Google Form.

Could all athletes now please head to the link via the button below and fill out all the questions so we have a complete up to date view on your current details in our system.

For new athletes that have recently completed this step there is no need to do it again of course.

HPT Chat Groups

For those new to HPT, we have a Facebook chat group called “HPT Training and Racing”. We also create race specific groups for the larger races.

For those that aren’t on it please let me know so I can add you.

Connect with me via my Facebook Profile https://www.facebook.com/peter.clifford.61 and we can do the connections.

Benchmark Testing

Things kick off again this week with CSS testing in the pool for most athletes. Bike and run will come later. No rush. I am super low key on winter benchmark testing. Happy for you to say “no thanks”. I also want you remembering it’s off-season and we have just started building properly in a big block towards Christmas.

Off-season testing isn’t about chasing a PB every time. It gives us an honest snapshot of where you are now and helps set the right training for what comes next. Some results may improve, some may stay the same, and some may drop slightly after a break. That’s completely normal for all levels of athlete. Even the pro’s !

Turn up, give an honest effort, and let the numbers do their job. No pressure, no reasons needed, just useful information.

Flu Season

Yep - we have hit that time where endurance athlete’s a fighting the flu’s going around.

3 simple ways to reduce your risk of the flu:

  1. Consider using a product like Armaforce. Teachers are known for this trick being around sick kids all day.

  2. Prioritise sleep, recovery and adequate nutrition, especially during heavy training.

  3. Stay warm before and after sessions.

You can’t eliminate the risk, but you can give yourself a much better chance - and if you are full blown sick - rest !!
